Our 5th grade class surprised the entire school — and parents — with an incredible performance of Michael Jackson’s “Thriller”!
They’ve been hard at work since the beginning of the school year bringing this project to life — from learning the choreography to nailing every spooky detail. The result? A performance that had everyone cheering!

Our Zoology CAMP took learning beyond the classroom! After studying ocean animals and their habitats, we visited Steele Creek Nature Center to explore aquatic life in East Tennessee. Students loved seeing the similarities and differences—and learning even more about the incredible trees, bees, and creatures that call our region home.

My name is Harriet, and I am a lifelong Johnson City resident and proud Ashley Academy alum, having attended from 4th through 8th grade.
Looking back, what sets Ashley apart is its focus on curiosity and cultivating a lifelong love of learning. With the support of dedicated teachers, my classmates and I were encouraged to advance and excel at our own pace, dive into subjects that sparked our interests—such as building a geodesic dome out of newspaper rolls or filming a morning show set in ancient Mesopotamia, and think critically rather than simply memorize facts.
Another defining aspect of Ashley is the sense of community. Fifteen years after graduating, I’m still connected with former teachers and classmates, and I love seeing the paths we’ve taken and the things we’ve accomplished. At Ashley, we weren’t just classmates—we were part of a close-knit community made possible by small classes and shared experiences across the years.
