About Us

HISTORY

Ashley Academy was founded in 1979 to provide a challenging educational program to bright and gifted children.  For forty years, Ashley Academy has maintained exemplary standards in the preschool through eighth grade levels. Organized as an independent, co-educational, private school, Ashley Academy promotes learning in an atmosphere that nurtures character, responsibility, and self-worth.

MISSION

To educate and prepare creative, confident young people to think critically and embrace lifelong learning.

OUR MASCOT: THE GRIFFIN

The Griffin is composed of two animals, the lion and the eagle, both of which are at the top of the animal kingdom. The eagle is known for its keen sight, both far and wide, yet is able to focus on the most important aspects of any situation. The lion is known for being brave and courageous, regardless of the challenges they face. As Ashley Academy Griffins, we strive to see the big picture, taking in the whole view of what is before us, and have the courage to take on any challenges that come our way.

OPERATION

Ashley Academy’s school year consists of four, forty-five day quarters, approximately nine weeks each. School day hours for Pre-Kindergarten through eighth grade are 8:00am to 3:15 pm. Students may arrive at the school starting at 7:30 a.m. In order to accommodate families who need child care services before and after the academic day, Ashley Academy offers an extended care program from 7:00am to 7:30am and 3:30pm to 5:30pm.

LEADERSHIP

The teacher-student ratio at Ashley Academy averages 1:15, with an enrollment capacity of 214. The faculty is composed of thirty full- and part-time dedicated professional educators, many of whom have earned graduate degrees. The school also meets all state academic and safety requirements, and is annually approved by the Tennessee State Department of Education.

The Headmaster oversees all matters of the school and faculty. A Board of Directors governs the school and is responsible for selecting the Headmaster.  Board members constitute a range of individuals within the community and school with representation from academic, financial, legal and medical entities as well as parents of Ashley Academy students and alumni.
